At Divergent Church Canberra we believe Church is not simply an event you attend but a community of people living out the life of Christ, for his cause, acting as catalysts to bless a world that does not know Jesus.

Who is Jesus?

Everyone seems to have an opinion about Jesus...

How you answer this question is incredibly important.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the hope of humanity. Through His death and resurrection, we find forgiveness for sin, healing from brokenness, purpose for today, and hope for the future. This gift of grace is available to all who choose to place their trust in Him.

The Bible offers a powerful picture of who Jesus is and how we can truly know God.

THE ONLY WAY OF SALVATION

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

It is through this incredible gift that we come to understand the depth of God’s love.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” (1 John 3:16a)

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6)

GOD CAME AS MAN

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-2)

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

“Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5b-11)

HOPE FOR HUMANITY

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.’” (Romans 10:9-11)

Take a moment to reflect on what Jesus Christ means for you and your family. Following Jesus is not about adopting a religion—it’s about beginning a real and personal relationship with the God who loves you. If you’re ready to invite Him into your life, you can pray this simple prayer:

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I recognize my need for You. I need Your forgiveness, Your strength, and Your guidance in my life. I believe that even though I am a sinner, You died for my sins and took my punishment. I believe You rose again, defeating death itself. I ask You to come into my life, change me, and lead me every day. Amen.

If you have truly repented and put your trust in Jesus, Scripture assures us:

“All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 2:21)

You are now a child of God. But just as every child needs a family, every believer is called to be part of a community—a place to grow, be encouraged, and walk out their faith. That’s what the Church is all about.

Some say He was a 'good man', others still 'a prophet', others yet again a 'great teacher'. In Matthew 16 Jesus himself asked this question of his own disciples.

“Who do you say I am?”  Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. (Matt 16:15b - 17)
